Senior Medical Laboratory Assistant

We are looking for an enthusiastic, accurate and motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant (Clinical Support Worker) to join our team in Cellular Pathology, at the Royal United Hospital, in the beautiful city of Bath.

Applicants will need to have experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant working in pathology, ideally with proven recent competencies in Cellular Pathology; however, in-house training will be provided as necessary. A minimum qualification of NVQ3 or equivalent is required (e.g. 2 A-levels); however a degree level of qualification is not needed for this post.

Working as part of a team your main duties will include sorting and data-inputting of histopathology samples, slide and block filing, using the pathology computer system (Ultra), receiving and delivering stores, assisting in the histology and cytology sections supporting our professional team (including Biomedical Scientists and Medical Consultants) and preparing multi-disciplinary clinico-pathological meetings.

This position will be based in the Histology section which processes 30,000 histology cases per annum, supports 30 clinico-pathological meetings per month and provides a Cellular Pathology service to hospital clinicians and GPs in BaNES, Wiltshire and Somerset. The Herschel Pathology Laboratories are situated in relatively new facilities; we are accredited by the IBMS for training and hold UKAS accreditation.
