The Oceanarium is seeking an enthusiastic, passionate and pro-active Penguin Keeper to join our aquatics team on the Dorset coast, caring for a diverse range of creatures - from sharks, otters and penguins, to turtles, jellyfish and crocodiles.

A key role in an exciting and dynamic facility, the keeper will be responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and operation of the entire Penguin Beach and aviary area providing the highest standards of care for our Humboldt penguin colony, in addition to the Inca terns that share the exhibit. Duties also include the monitoring of diet, health and veterinary programmes, along with detailed record keeping utilising ZIMS.

Regular talks, feeds and interactive opportunities provide a captivating and immersive experience for visitors throughout the day.

The position also shares responsibility for other exhibit areas in the aquarium, along with maintaining plantroom and LSS facilities.This includes on-call duty on a rota basis as well as weekend and bank holiday working.

The ideal candidate will have a number of years of penguin keeping and presenting experience in addition to working with a wide variety of aquatic creatures and systems in an aquarium or zoo setting. Relevant degree level qualifications or equivalent are an advantage along with a self-motivated approach and can-do outlook.
