Full Job Description

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic public health specialist who is up for a challenge in the largest London borough, working predominantly on issues within pre-conception to age 25. With the biggest population of young people in London this role provides varied and interesting work. Alongside our specialist team, you will address the spectre of structural, socio-economic inequalities disproportionally augmented by the pandemic and profound economic challenges, that disproportionally impact on our Black, Asian and global majority communities.


Croydon’s public health team has transformed into a small, well-respected specialist function working across the council and with our partners on the wider determinants of health, with strong recognition that we are a competency-based profession.


We are changing the narrative using our competencies and expertise to make public health everyone’s business. Public health thinking is hard-wired into strategic decision-making and operational delivery to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of residents ensuring we have a track record of real outcomes and improvement.


We work in collaboration with the NHS, voluntary sector, statutory services other partners and our communities and residents.. We are passionate and forward- thinking but also face significant challenges both in terms of health inequalities, deprivation, and a constrained financial environment. Public health has a key role to ensure that we don’t increase inequalities.


You will be a registered public health specialist, and a senior strategist, delivering all domains of public health: health improvement, healthcare public health, health intelligence and health protection. You will lead and manage senior-level programmes and projects, deputising for the Director of Public Health when required.
